Wild Basin

On this morning I hiked in about 7 miles to photograph this view at sunrise. My hope was that the alpine avens might have taken on their autumn colors and my hope was proved right. They were at peak and contrasted nicely with the tundra grasses that were turning brown. The southern shoulder of Mount Alice caught the morning light. I was hoping that the whole mountain would, but clouds prevented that from happening. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful morning to welcome the arrival of autumn in the backcountry of beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park . Photo © copyright by Erik Stensland.
