The ptarmigans up in the alpine zone are in the process of changing from their summer coat of brown feathers to the white winter clothing. Even in this transition, they are hard to spot among the boulders. This family of ptarmigan seemed to be really happy with the cooling temperatures as they are a species of bird that is well adapted to cold weather. Photo © copyright by Erik Stensland.
