Moonlight Surprise - 16x24
Rocky Mountain National Park
I finished shooting a sunset up on top of Flattop Mountain. It was late April and the tundra was covered in thick snow, making for some delightful wintry scenes. On my way back down the snow had turned to solid ice making skiing quite dangerous. I had to carry my skis and try to walk down the icy slope. As I reached a particularly steep section, each footstep broke through the ice sending me nearly waist deep. From then on, each step was a slog.
As I dejectedly made my way down I noticed a growing light in the distance. I soon realized something special was happening and quickly pulled my equipment out. A beautiful harvest moon rose over Twin Sisters. It was so rich and colorful that it was truly breathtaking. I stood there shooting the scene with a big smile on my face. Sometimes what seems to be a frustration of our plans is actually what we need to discover an even better plan.
